From my experience, there is no such thing as breathable material. Sweat is no different to water and no material only allows moisture to travel on only one direction.
They are made of standard waterproof material, nothing fancy. There are no ventilation ports and the trousers are not lined with anything (such as that moisture wicking net like material).
You will sweat in these (as you would in any other water proof garment) unless it's really cold. I wear Lycra tights under these which stops them sticking to your skin as much. As with any waterproof trousers, you have to choose your time to wear them depending on weather conditions, journey time, changing facilities. In light rain, I don't bother with them. But if the rain is heavy and it's cold or windy too, I wear these to stop my knees getting cold and sore.
