" I just can't get on with this at all. The other brush I have is more like a paint brush and it gets into the cassette and the teeth of the jockey wheels and chainset. This thing is so stiff it doesn't seem to want to get anywhere and the bristles are so hard that they hardly hold any drivetrain cleaner. "

" I had some of these from a well known cycle clothing manufacturer and they were ripped after a season of use as they were only made of neoprene. These have the advantage of being reinforced and using kevlar so they seem to have lasted longer to date. The only downside is they take longer to put on. "

" I think these are one of the unsung heroes of cycling as you can easily clean your bike with one replacing your rear wheel and they're really cheap! Only thing to remember is to change down a few gears after your back wheel comes out. "

" I got this on the back of the other reviews and would echo them. There aren't any fancy polymers or lubes with it but it does seem to work as a replacement for the SRAM cable it replaced. At this price you can probably replace it more often anyway. "

" I have found these have worked well for keeping my feet warm and free from even biblical torrents, with the seal around the ankle being particularly tight yet not uncomfortable. The only down side is your feet will sweat in these so get slightly damp from the inside. The kevlar seems to be holding out on the heels and toes as well. I went for XL and that fits snugly around a Giro size 48 shoe without being too tight. "

Sleeves too Short if you have Long Arms

" As is the case for every bit of DHB kit I have the sleeves are way too short on this. They need at least an extra inch and that's after I got an XL to size up. For an autumn/spring top that is inexcusable. If the sleeves were right then this would be OK. Sure, it's cut short on the body at the front but if you wear bib shorts that's not an issue. If you have long arms just make sure you have gloves that cover your wrist and then some! Unfortunately, it's not something you can address unlike if you have short arms and can roll the sleeves up. Meh! "

" These just work. They're easy to put on, they breathe nicely and they're impressively waterproof, sealing neatly around the ankle (they've been absolutely soaked and still kept the water out). How they fare after several washes I don't know but for now well worth the price. Only minor criticism is that they aren't for full winter but having said that my toes only get cold once it drops below zero. "

" Me and waterproofs just didn't get on. Tried many and none of them seemed to breathe properly and/or let water in. I finally lost it after ploughing through torrential rain then hitting a pothole and having to repair a puncture whilst getting soaked in my existing jacket. Anything was better than this and worth it. Fortunately Gore's jacket really does live up to all the hype. It's completely waterproof and once it stops raining you shake it until all the rain falls off. It breathes, even for someone like me who sweats profusely. The arms are long enough. It's stupidly light and packs in its own pocket. At last! The only minor negatives are that it doesn't stretch so it's slightly flappy and it's only in black, although you do get reflectives on the arms. An extra large fit me fine and I'm 41" chest, 6'4" and around 90kg. "

" SRAM really do pain me with no paper instructions in their packaging. It means finding the right instructions online then finding the right section for your product and matching it with another, which in my case was a SRAM Red chainset and this. I eventually found out that you don't need to use the spacers if you're on a 68mm BB shell unless you have a non-road chainset. SRAM could do a lot better job on making instructions easy to find and having instructions specific to chainset and BB types rather than trying to include everything in one set. Only time will tell how long the bearings last! "

Is there clearance for mudguards AND 35c tyres?

The reason I ask is that I'd like to run Schwalbe Marathon winter tyres (with spikes) so I can use this all the way through winter. They're 35c so from what I've read they'd fit without mudguards but that'd mean getting wet when it rains :-(.

Sizing Question (again!)

Similar to others who have asked. I'm 6'4" but slim so just have a 42" chest and 36" waist so whilst the XXL would work for height would they be far too baggy around the waist and chest?

what is size and quality of tyre boot?

I want a tyre boot patch - this entire set is much cheaper than the cheapest tyre boot patch I can find.... is the tyre boot patch in this set good quality and large enough?! (why so cheap??)
Top 250 Contributor
Top 250 Contributor
As I remember, the tyre boot is a piece of cardboard. It'll do but I'd personally prefer an old bit of tyre or a piece of duct tape stuck on my pump and there's even an argument the case this comes in, suitably trimmed, would do a better job! Re size, if you go much bigger than the boot then I think you're pretty much stuffed anyway!

I ride in this with a base layer down to about 6 degrees centigrade although it is getting chilly at that point if I'm cruising and I'm quite hardy! I'd suggest that for most once it gets below 10 you'd be looking for something a bit thicker.

I'd say yes at a push although I haven't tried it. It's the reason why I got it as it avoids having to carry a chain tool as well.

What wrench to use?

What size wrench do I need to fit these?
Top 250 Contributor
Top 250 Contributor
You need a standard pedal spanner (15mm). If you're buying one to fit these, make sure you get a long handled one. My experience has been that even putting grease on when you fit these they're still tight to remove.

Lifeline Essentials Rim-tapes are designed to be compatible with most road 700c and MTB 26inch wheels. Each available in two widths for both narrow and wide section rims.

Is this tape adhesive?

One of the reviewers suggested it is better to get the adhesive version. How does this attach to the rim if it is not adhesive?
Top 250 Contributor
Top 250 Contributor
The stuff I got wasn't. It fits tightly on the rim, and a combination of that and its width means that it stays put. It depends what you want. Some people on the CTC forum wouldn't have anything other than adhesive rim tape to make sure it stays in place and it doesn't crack. Personally, I haven't had either problem and I'd much rather not have to remove adhesive from the rim if I pop a new rim tape on.

Can I Please Know if this Tape has a Pressure Limit Marked on It ?

Top 250 Contributor
Top 250 Contributor
The tape is marked as suitable for high pressure tyres. I'm running 26" slicks at 6atm and they seem to be fine. Not sure what would happen running higher pressures but the tape itself seems to be quite thick so I would imagine it would work fine.

I've been using my Amberley IIs down to -6 and my fingers have stayed warm and toasty once I've got through the first 10 minutes of warming up. I can't see a situation where I'd want to switch to the Extreme Winter gloves. I think at that point I just wouldn't be riding the bike ;-).
